Obituary for Brad Towns

Brad Towns
Bradford Charles Towns passed away peacefully on September 2nd, 2018 at the Garden Street site of the Brockville General Hospital. Brad was the son of the late Bill and Hilda Towns. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Brenda, proud and loving father of Benjamin (Scarlett), Nicholas and Alexander; devoted grandfather of Bryghton (Piper) and Cieldh Towns and Imogen McMullen. Sadly missed by brother-in-law, Douglas (Jackie) Allan; niece and nephew, Naomi and David; cousins Brian Runnalls (Karin), Glen Cuming (Mary) and Steve and their families. Also mourned by Aunt Faye Allan and family.

Brad worked as a registered nurse at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital for many years. After retirement he worked on a part-time basis at the Brockville and Area Community Living Association. He was an active volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity in the Re-Store, on committees, the Brockville Food Bank and the Athens Heritage Society. Brad was always interested in meeting people and learning new things. He was particularly fascinated by history of the World Wars. He was a passionate collector particularly of war-time memorabilia and vintage toys. Brad often did presentations in the community and to school groups. He had the privilege to be a volunteer chaperone with Blake Seward's SFHS history class when they visited Vimy, France. Brad also loved gardening and he was an avid traveller both in Canada and abroad. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family. His family would like to thank family, friends and neighbours for their generosity, community care services and the palliative care services and medical staff of the 5th floor of the Brockville General Hospital; Garden Street Site for their excellent care and support.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Brad's life on Wednesday, September 5th from 1-3 pm, with family tributes at 2 pm, at the Irvine Reception Centre, 4 James Street East, Brockville. Donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation - Palliative Care or the Athens and Area Heritage Society will be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Donations and condolences may be left online at www.irvinememorial.com.
